Accelerating HDMI sink compliance testing with an arbitrary waveform generator
The new High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) 2.1 specification for consumer digital video interfaces significantly increases the bandwidth and feature set over past HDMI versions. There are two significant physical layer changes with HDMI 2.1, including a new fixed rate link (FRL) video transport method and an enhanced audio return channel (eARC).
HDMI compliance sink testing of these new features requires a source capable of generating a wide range of test patterns, and the ability to add a precise amount of impairments to the output signal. Use an arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) and software to automate the test and guide you through the test procedure and required system connectivity. A real-time oscilloscope is used for signal calibration.
HDMI physical layer sink compliance test solution
HDMI 2.1x sink compliance testing requires a source capable of generating a wide range of test patterns. Measurement accuracy is determined by the source noise floor (intrinsic jitter) and the ability to control the signal attributes such as injected jitter. Keysight’s HDMI sink compliance test solution includes an AWG, automated test software, and a high-performance real-time oscilloscope for signal calibration.
The Keysight HDMI sink test solution supports full HDMI 2.1x transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS) and FRL data rates, character error detection for FRL, and video inspection for TMDS. This test solution enables independent clock and data jitter injection for accurate sink characterization. With the industry's first channel duplication capability, the arbitrary waveform generator enables the addition of an intra-pair skew within the instrument, eliminating the need to manually adjust external delay lines during the sensitive calibration process.
