Deploying High-Capacity Broadband Networks Using 5G FWA
Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is an effective way to rapidly deploy broadband networks. Connecting fixed locations through wireless communications saves cost and time compared to installing fiber-optic lines while providing high-capacity broadband access. In 4G, Long Term Evolution (LTE) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) were the key technologies used to deploy FWA, however, the transmission speed and data throughput are not high enough compared to fiber to the home (FTTH). 5G requires higher spectral bandwidth combined with massive multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) and other technologies to achieve a significant increase in capacity. The introduction of 5G brings new opportunities for the fixed wireless broadband market. As operators roll out 5G networks, the commercial launch of 5G fixed wireless broadband services is accelerating.
