USB4 Transmitter Compliance Test
Fully-automated USB4 transmitter compliance test made easy
USB4 Transmitter Compliance Test to USB-IF Standards
The USB4 standard doubles the bit rate of USB 3.2 to 40 Gbps with support for two 20 Gbps physical layer (PHY) lanes. A single USB Type C port handles multiple data communication protocols at once. All USB products need USB-IF authorized compliance testing for USB4 certification, which tells consumers their USB C products will work together seamlessly.
The increased bit rates bring more potential for transmitter errors, so testing USB4 devices is more challenging than prior generations. Testing a USB4 transmitter requires the device under test (DUT) to transmit test patterns. A high-performance real-time oscilloscope captures these patterns and analyzes them.
Doubling the PHY bit rate to 40 Gbps introduces additional signal integrity challenges. Signals are transferred on all four high-speed pairs at the same time, increasing the near-end and far-end crosstalk. In addition, new jitter, phase, and slew rate measurements further complicate testing. Short channel and long channel test cases each need additional test setups.
