Measuring the true performance of the device under test (DUT) in 5G new radio (NR) receivers requires a test system that suppresses the system noise to get a lower error vector magnitude (EVM) floor at higher frequencies and wider bandwidths. The test system’s residual EVM noise floor must be low enough so it is not the dominant source of error, or so that it does not mask the DUT’s true performance.
The test system should include two signal analyzers with signal analysis software and be able to compare the measured EVM of the test system on each to mathematically remove the noise contributed by the test system. This method is called cross-correlated EVM (ccEVM) and provides an accurate and reliable DUT EVM measurement for 5G NR frequency range 1 (FR1) and FR2 applications.
